Summer is already here and it seems that we will be able to enjoy the warm weather and outdoor activities more this year. While doing that though, we can’t ignore our dental hygiene, which we tend to do during the summer months, to be honest! Here are 5 dental tips that are specifically aimed for the summer months. If you have any questions or if you are looking for a consultation, contact Glacier Creek Dental today!

Don’t Neglect Your Usual Dental Routine

During vacation, it feels like every day is Saturday, and it’s possible to lose track of what day we’re in because we’re relaxed and without any worries! That should not mean we should neglect our personal care, though, and this is especially true during the summer! Don’t forget to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once a day

Watch Out at The Pool

One of the most popular activities you can do in the summer is swimming, but here is a not-so-fun swimming fact: chlorine is one of the leading causes of discoloration on your teeth. High levels of pH will cause the enamel of the teeth to soften. Obviously, this does not mean you should not swim — but you can take some precautions doing so. Be sure to brush your teeth as soon as you are out of the pool so that the chlorine does not stay on your teeth. You can also have your teeth whitened, a service offered in our Fort Collins clinic!

Avoid Sugary Drinks and Alcohol

You probably already know about this, but it might slip through your mind during summer when we are all relaxed and ready to have some fun. Soft drinks that include sugar and acid will soften your tooth enamel just like chlorine does, and the same thing applies to alcohol as well, unfortunately! We know it is impossible to cut all of those things at once, but it would be a lot better for your dental health if you cut down on the unhealthy stuff.

Sensitive Teeth, Beware

If you suffer from sensitive teeth and gums, summertime is going to be especially difficult for you. With hot weather, our first instinct is to binge on drinks with lots of ice and of course, ice cream! If you do suffer from sensitive teeth, you don’t have to accept it as your fate! You can have that issue treated with a fluoride treatment or a root canal at Glacier Creek Dental in Fort Collins.

Drink Lots of Water

Staying hydrated in summer goes without saying, but drinking lots of water is incredibly beneficial for your dental health, as it balances our mouth’s pH level reduces the buildup of food remains, keeping our teeth cleaner.

After a long-lasting period of social isolation, we all deserve to have a nice, long vacation this summer. While doing that, though, it’s important not to forget about keeping tabs on our dental hygiene. It’s OK to relax a little, we should not ignore our usual dental care routines doing so. As part of your routine, you should also visit your dentist regularly. So don’t waste any more time and schedule an appointment at Glacier Creek Dental in Fort Collins, CO today.
