Start With Consistent Brushing and Flossing

When it comes to dental hygiene and health, teeth whitening is always one of the first topics brought up. To keep your teeth white and shining, it is important to never underestimate the value of consistent brushing and flossing. Tooth discoloration can happen over time, but the reason why our teeth start to yellow is because of plaque buildup. Regular brushing will help eliminate the bacteria that leads to yellowing, and regular flossing will help with plaque formation.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide

Many commercial whitening products use hydrogen peroxide, and using toothpaste containing 1% hydrogen peroxide has proven to lead to whiter teeth. Hydrogen peroxide is a natural bleaching agent that kills bacteria in your mouth, and using it in a low concentration can help your teeth whiten.

Brush With Baking Soda or Baking Soda Toothpaste

Baking soda has natural whitening properties while also building an alkaline environment in your mouth to prevent bacterial growth. Because of this, you can find baking soda in a plethora of commercial toothpaste in any supermarket. Studies have shown that baking soda products also are more effective at removing yellow stains from your teeth.

Avoid Teeth-Staining Foods and Beverages

Though difficult to do, avoiding liquids like soda and coffee can allow your teeth to stay white and stain-free. Staying away from foods like dark berries, or foods with high sugar content will also help with teeth stains. This rule isn’t an absolute, but just a great tip to keep in the back of your mind!
